About the stone
Aventurine
A quartz with tiny mineral plates, such as green fuchsite mica, that give a gentle shimmer called aventurescence. Hardness 6.5–7.
In tradition: The name comes from the Italian "a ventura", meaning "by chance", after a glittering glass discovered by accident in Venice.
Care: Wipe with a soft dry cloth; keep away from perfume and harsh cleaners.
Jade
"Jade" covers two tough stones, nephrite and jadeite, valued for their smooth, waxy lustre. Hardness 6–7.
In tradition: In China jade has been revered for thousands of years as the stone of virtue. In New Zealand, Maori greenstone (pounamu) is a treasured taonga.
Care: Very tough but can scratch: wipe with a soft cloth and store separately.
